Calice – A Culinary Delight at the Footsteps of Rue Mouffetard

Finding a restaurant that seamlessly blends ambiance, quality, and creativity is rare, but Calice delivers on all fronts. Nestled at the footsteps of Rue Mouffetard, this contemporary eatery is quickly becoming a favorite among food lovers, and after my recent visit, I can see why.

First Impressions

Walking into Calice, I was immediately struck by its inviting yet stylish décor. The warm lighting, comfortable leather banquettes, and carefully curated playlist created a perfect atmosphere for a relaxed yet refined dining experience. Whether you’re on a date, catching up with friends, or dining solo, the ambiance sets the tone for an enjoyable meal. I can’t forget to mention my highlight which was the open kitchen, allowing diners to observe the culinary team on stage, personalising the dining experience.

The Menu: A Flavorful Journey

The menu at Calice is a well-balanced mix of inventive dishes and French food classics, all made with a light touch and an eye towards Japan: The restaurant takes pride in offering a variety of options, from small plates to larger plates which you can share. On my visit, Chef Kazuma CHIKUDA was the artistic director, ensuring all was not just visual, but also bursting with flavour.

Charred Leek Confit

To start, I ordered the Charred Leek Confit , and they were an absolute hit. Lightly smoked to perfection (Japanese style Binchotan) and generously dusted with roasted almonds with a touch of ricotta and elevated by the yuzu miso.

Normande Rib-Eye

For the main, I opted for the Normande Rib-Eye. The meat was fork-tender, melting in my mouth with every bite with a nice balance of seasoning (thaï chives, fermented chili mayonnaise), while the baby potatoes provided the perfect crunchy balance.

Drinks & Dessert

The wine list is another highlight at Calice. I was taken back by the variety and the selection of natural and bio wines by the glass. Sommelier Thomas LEGRAND offers a unique menu for everyone’s taste.

For dessert, Kaori AKAZAWA offered a delightful choice French standards reimagined with modernity and Japanese subtlety. I went for the Chocolate Mille-Feuille that oozed chocolate with each bite. Paired with Madagascar vanilla ice cream and a hazelnut praline. A perfect ending to my meal.

The Calice si a must-visit for anyone looking for a refined yet approachable dining experience. You can’t go wrong for lunch or for dinner with a menu that combines the flavours of Japan and French classics. You won’t be disappointed.
